I cannot imagine doing this, but I suppose that some people speak without thinking and say the wrong thing to kids all the time. My kids enjoy going to the doctor and I always let them know about it in advance, as well as warn them if they may get a shot or have to give blood. This is to allow for open discussion and questioning to take place. Kids sometimes just need a little time to process
