What is an Extension Au Pair?

goAUPAIR logo for adsThere are lots of terms thrown around in the child care world. Transition Au Pair? EduCare Au Pair? Extension Au Pair? What do they mean and why are they important to you?

Transition Au Pairs have yet to complete their first year as an Au Pair in the U.S. under the Au Pair Program guidelines, due to a variety of circumstances, to which you should have knowledge. EduCare Au Pairs provide part time care, up to 30 hours weekly, for about $292. Extension Au Pairs are Au Pairs who are in the process of completing a full year of service (it may be in more than one American household), and are looking to extend their stay and their opportunity to provide a cultural child care experience for another 6, 9 or 12 months, depending on his or her preference.

Go Au Pair has a number of Au Pairs, with guaranteed start/availability dates, who are looking to extend their stay, mostly for 12 months, but some for less. You can view their profiles for free at http://www.goaupair.com/Host-Families/Available-Au-Pairs.aspx?pair=in. This provides a consistent caregiver a relationship for you and your child with an exact start and end date, allowing for real planning ahead of time. If you like the cultural child care experience, like many Host Families, you may choose to repeat the experience over and over again!
