What? What is Go Au Pair? You mean you haven’t heard? Go Au Pair is one of the original eight government-designated agencies to assist American families arrange childcare services from an au pair (since 1989). We have been active in Rhode Island for the past year.
In case you don’t know, the term “au pair” is a French phrase meaning, “equal to.” It describes the relationship a young woman had with a French family, where she lived as a member of a family, on an equal basis, provided childcare and related duties to a family in exchange for room and board. Here in America, an au pair can be a male or female from a foreign country who has come to provide childcare in exchange for the opportunity to live in our country while learning our language and culture.
I am proud to announce that the Providence cluster is growing! I have been working very hard to reach out to local families who need child care, especially as summer approaches. I have been lucky enough to speak to several families with children over the past weeks. We have one au pair who just extended for another year with her family in Rehoboth, just over the line in MA, and we have another au pair arriving to her new home in Sutton, MA in August! We also have a new family in the West Warwick area who are in the search process for their new au pair and another family in the Warwick area who may be welcoming their new au pair next month in June!
Hopefully, we can all get together very soon at the next Family Fun Day, scheduled for Saturday, June 29th at the Loof Carousel in East Providence. We are planning a picnic by the bay, or maybe some clam cakes and chowder from the Snack Shack after we ride the historic carousel and try to catch the brass ring. Catch the brass ring and win a free ride on the carousel! It is a great photo op with the unusual wooden carved figures, not just horses either! Get a ride on a zebra or a camel, or stick with a traditional carousel horse, but join us in June!
