Who Hosts an Au Pair?

I’ve been asked this question quite a few times. The answer is simple: people with kids!

Okay, of course, the answer is more than that, but simply said, if your family has kids needing childcare, you could be a great match for an au pair! Go Au Pair is here to deliver your family’s cultural child care experience!

First of all, it is a live-in situation, since au pairs come from over 50 other countries. You could choose the language and nationality to match your family’s interests or heritage.

Second, it is safe and reliable. Au pairs have to submit to a full background investigation which includes personality testing, verifying their education and checking that references are not from family members, not to mention physical examination and criminal background check. You may not get that with your local daycare or have the capacity to do that for each private applicant, should you try to hire outside of an agency. You also get the added support of the main office and a local representative, that’s me, to guide you and help you through the entire process and any mediation that is needed throughout the year.

Third, if you have a job, an au pair is a great person to care for your kids and keep them off the couch. Au pairs come to experience the American culture and want to take an active role in your family and with your kids. They look forward to exploring the area for activities and places to visit. Au pairs love the idea of sharing their language and culture with your family just as much as they want to improve their English skills, too, so they will be engaging your children constantly with stories, questions, and educational activities.

Fourth, it is not as expensive as you might think! Hosting an au pair is actually a very affordable option for families. Compare the pricing of full-time daycare or a private nanny. Daycare charges per child, not per family, so the more kids needing care, the more it costs. Not so with an au pair, and you set the hours each week, making it the most flexible option out there! Private nannies cost anywhere from $10-20 per hour! An au pair works up to 45 hours per week and the cost to you is around $343, which averages to less than $8 per hour, and the benefits seriously out-weigh all the other choices!

Don’t hesitate, especially with the school year quickly coming to a close! Apply to be a host family today and start your family’s cultural child care experience!
