As you probably already know, each month a new country is chosen to feature its Au Pairs. Go Au Pair offers Host Families a $100 discount for matching with an Au Pair from the Featured Country of the Month. This month, we are happy to offer this discount if you match with an Au Pair from Germany during the month of June.

What about German Au Pairs, you ask? Great question! Let me first tell you a little about the country and then I will tell you some about its people. Please take a look at our website, where you can read a recent interview with a German Au Pair, read reviews of German Au Pairs by American Host Families, as well as view some of our Available German Au Pairs.

Germany, located in central Europe, is the second most-populous European country after Russia, hosting a full 82 million citizens in almost 135,000 square miles! Just for comparison purposes, the U.S. has about 312 million citizens in about 3,800,000 square miles! It also shares borders with nine other countries, more than any other in Europe. Its capital and largest city is Berlin.

The country has a number of natural resources and large companies. Copper, nickel, natural gas, uranium and coal are among its resources and BMW, Adidas, Mercedes-Benz, Nivea, Audi, Bayer, and Volkswagen are among the big-name companies based in Germany. The country has also taken steps to protect its vast wildlife populations of whales, beavers, minks, and many other species, by creating 97 nature reserves, the largest being the famed Black Forest. The flat, northern coast of Germany is home to abundant sea life and wading birds, while the forested mountains and hills of southern Germany are home to wildcats, boar, ibex and other large mammals.

Germany has been called “The Land of Poets and Thinkers” since it produces so many talented individuals in these areas. Famous composers Johann Back and Ludwig van Beethoven have called Germany home, as well as the famous Grimm Brothers, poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and scientist-inventor Albert Einstein! In fact, over 100 Germans have been awarded the Nobel Prize for achievement in their field! Education and culture are important to the people of Germany, as demonstrated by this rich history as well as the fact that 99% of Germans are literate (can read and write)!

Hosting an Au Pair from Germany would be a great way to bring that love of culture and excellence in education to your home! The people of Germany love going to museums, concerts, theatres, as well as participating in sports. The favorite sport of the German people is soccer, followed by tennis, swimming, and skiing. If yours is a sporting family, an active, German Au Pair would be a great match!

The people come from many backgrounds, as in America. Almost one in ten modern Germans come from a foreign country. The largest minority of Germans are Turkish, as many came to Germany for work in the 1950s. As far as religion, about two-thirds of Germans are Christians. Why not view some of our Available Au Pairs from Germany for FREE? Once you complete a Host Family Application, also FREE and with NO obligation, you can start emailing and interviewing potential Au Pairs!

Finally, don’t forget the food! German food is delicious! So is German beer! You know you love Black Forest Cake! Some of you love Sauerkraut alone or smothering your hot dog, or better yet, your Bratwurst (fried sausage). Pork is the most popular meat in Germany, closely followed by beef and poultry, but don’t stop there. Game meats of boar, rabbit and venison are popular year-round as well as chicken, duck, goose and turkey. Delicious white asparagus called Spargel, is a popular side dish and sometimes main dish during Spargel season, which happens to be right now in Germany.

Consider the benefits of hosting an au pair to meet your child care needs. Then I challenge you to compare the cost of hosting an au pair to your full-time, less-than-enriching day care. Feel free to contact me via email, text, or telephone with your questions about the Au Pair Program. I am your Local Area Rep for Go Au Pair and can be reached at 401.309.1925 or jlowell@goaupair.com.

Einen schönen Tag noch!  Have a nice day!
