Au Pairs are adventurous and brave young people who leave their home countries for a cultural and educational experience in a foreign country living with and caring for an American family’s children. Wow! Successfully completing a year or two in that situation is an achievement no matter what! Go Au Pair wants to reward you even further with an Achievement Package.
What is included and what do you need to do to get one? That’s what I am going to tell you! First, you cannot return home early and must complete the requirements outlined here. You can also receive an Achievement Package at the end of your first year and at the end of your extension.
When Go Au Pair sends you surveys in your email about the Au Pair Program and your participation in it, you need to complete each one. Make sure to be as detailed as possible when you reply to the surveys to give the main office as much information as possible to improve the program and continue doing the things you found helpful and successful.
You must participate in at least four Au Pair activities or cultural events during your year. Your LAR should be holding an event every other month or so and your Host Family should make arrangements for your transportation to and from the events. Ask your LAR or other Au Pairs in the area if you need a ride to an event. If you happen to attend an event hosted by a LAR in a nearby area, make sure to tell your own LAR so you can receive credit for your attendance. For example, one of my Au Pairs has friends in the Boston cluster, so she joins them for many of their cultural and social activities.
Finally, you must complete the educational requirement and send the proof to the main office in a timely fashion. That means as soon as you finish a class or any credits, CUEs or you audit a class (which is free), you should submit your paperwork so you don’t forget. As a reminder, you need to get each class or course approved before you start, so contact Whitney Wilson at the main office with your questions. Also, if you intend to extend your stay with your current family or with a new one, plan to finish courses and submit the proof to head quarters by the end of the tenth month of your first year. This will allow plenty of time to process paperwork and renew your Visa dates.
What do you get in the Achievement Package? You get a beautiful certificate for your records, indicating your completion of the Au Pair Program with Go Au Pair, a great addition to your personal resume and record of your successful completion of the program. You also get a $100 gift card to Amazon.com, which can be used from all over the world. Finally, Go Au Pair will send you a small gift to acknowledge your great achievement by participating in one of the best cultural experiences available to young people and accepting families around the world!
