Don’t laugh. It’s true. The RI Breastfeeding Coalition is celebrating World Breastfeeding Week with the animals! We mammals were all “Born to Breastfeed,” and there is a statewide celebration this Wednesday evening at the zoo!
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children, ages 3-10 years. Starting at 5pm, Lactation Consultants will be on hand to answer questions, concessions will be open with food, and the entire zoo will be open with storytelling and face-painting too! The party goes on, rain or shine, until 9pm, when all the animals go to bed!
About 2,000 families, as many as 5,000 people, are expected to attend, with entertainment provided by Spinn productions and Al Martinez, Storytelling by Tandem Tellers, face painting, food and zoo animals. There will be many interesting tables with family friendly information.
This is their main event for the year. Perhaps your family can participate in someway. Please invite friends and spread the word. Please share our facebook page listing this event.
The RI Breastfeeding Coalition wants to educate you and support you in your endeavor to breastfeed! If you are a new mom, mom-to-be, or even an infant caregiver, you can get support from them! They have helpful links on their website, as well as details about the many benefits of breastfeeding, even if only for a short time.
For Au Pairs or other infant caregivers, check out their informational links so that you are educated about everything from postpartum depression in mom to breastfeeding laws to pumping and storing breast milk safely.
