Mark Your Calendars – You Are Invited!

As the Local Area Representative for Go Au Pair in the Providence and surrounding areas, I have the wonderful job of planning fun and adventurous cultural and social activities for our local au pairs and host families.

Go Au Pair is not rated the #1 Au Pair Agency of 2013 by aupairclearinghouse.com for no reason!

The Red Tricycle 2013 Totally Awesome Awards aren’t recognizing Go Au Pair as the only Au Pair Agency finalist in 6 cities for nothing!

We are awesome and we want you to be a part of the Go Au Pair family!

Please get out your calendars and see which of the following events you may be able to attend. It promises to be family fun and free or low cost, since I am a mom of six and sometimes the kids come along for some cultural exchange too!

Okay, now that you have your calendars, here are my next three cultural or social events from hiking next weekend to a fiery night in the Renaissance City to the happiest 5K on the planet!

Purgatory Chasm State Reservation – Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2pm

Come explore the beauty of a New England forest and hike the Chasm!

A unique natural landmark, Purgatory Chasm runs for a quarter of a mile between granite walls rising as high as 70 feet. Popular with picnickers and rock-climbers alike, the Chasm is believed to have its origin in the sudden release of dammed-up glacial meltwater near the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 14,000 years ago.

Trails lead to a wide variety of rock formations, with such romantic names as The Corn Crib, The Coffin, The Pulpit, Lovers’ Leap and Fat Man’s Misery.

An adventurous playground, equipped with a play structure, swings and a merry-go-round, is now located near the visitor center.

Please be aware chasm rocks and slopes are slippery and deceiving. Wear rubber soled shoes or hiking boots.  Please stay away from the edges of the chasm.  It is not recommended to hike the chasm after or during inclement weather due to extremely slippery rocks.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, but must be leashed at all times.

Let’s meet at 2pm (have a good lunch at home and bring light snacks) and spend a couple of hours exploring the forest trails.

If you can’t make such short notice, or hiking isn’t your thing, maybe you can join us for a night on the town!

Providence WaterFire – Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 6:30pm

Join us for a full lighting of Providence WaterFire‘s 80 bonfires along the three rivers of dynamic downtown Providence! Your stroll by the rivers will be accompanied by Waterfire Music. There will be plenty of entertainment, with Spogga, the fire dancer, performing on the boats along the rivers and in Memorial Park, plus catch a carnation thrown by a mime artist performing along the rivers. Be mesmerized by the Gargoyles and the Oracles, also performing on the World War Memorial at Memorial Park, or visit Union Plaza to see Inca Son, award-winning music and dance group, performing with Andean pan-flutes.Don’t forget to stop by the Waterfire Store and get a t-shirt, magnet or other Waterfire souvenir, add your Light to the Night with your own Ribbon of Light or light your own Luminaria Candle ($5 each), or wish upon a star and become a part of the art! ($10 to hang a wish on a star and $30 to bring home your own illuminating blue star). Although Waterfire is intended to be viewed from shore, gondola rentals are available (reservations required, up to 6 passengers).

Admission to the event is free.

Plan on parking at Providence Place Mall.

Okay, last option for now…it is colorful, it is fun, keep in mind, you don’t have to run….it is the Color Run, Saturday, October 20, 2013 at 9:30am.
The Color Run is a 5K walk/stroll/run for the fun crowd! This one costs money, but will be worth the fun! Please go online and register today! Don’t forget to choose Go Au Pair Providence as your team, and a 9:30am start time!

The Color Run™, also known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet, is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community.  Although not a charity event, a charity partner is chosen in each city; this year’s charity partner is Partners for Providence Parks.

As always, please contact me with your questions or concerns at jlowell@goaupair.com or 401.309.1925 anytime!
