While you are all enjoying your holidays, be sure to do so in a way that will be memorable for years to come. Considering you are both on this cultural exchange journey together, it makes sense to do something special with the newest member of your family, or if he or she is leaving soon, a sweet memory to take home forever. And course, do so responsibly! The kids should be the focus of the season, not the adults!
Also, be sensitive at this time of year. Many of us have lost loved ones, even if it was many years ago, and this time of year brings back those childhood and youthful memories like no other. Be sure to give homage to those who have passed, or even those who are still here but not able to be with the family to celebrate. Talk about that person, include them in your stories and tell others how your life is improved for having known them.
These are the moments that make family, not the expensive gifts or wrappings. The time spent together in true human love and spirit, sharing the true message of the season, which is love, no matter your religious beliefs.
Many blessings to all my Host Families and Au Pairs, wherever in the world you may be!
