Still Friared Up?

Sports fans, I am as disappointed as the next Providence College alum. Our beloved basketball team made the NCAA Men’s Basketball Second Round against North Carolina, and then lost in a very close 79-77 game last Friday, March 21st in San Antonio, Texas.

But there is still hope. Not for Friars basketball, at least this year, but for the hockey team! That’s right! Congratulations to Friars Men’s Ice Hockey for making the NCAA First Round Championships against Quinnipiac in Bridgeport, Connecticut this Friday night, a first-time post-season meeting for these two teams! Providence College hasn’t been in this position for 13 years, so join me in wishing the PC men good luck Friday night!

We love ice skating, especially ice hockey, here in RI, and I have even played hockey on many-a-pond, back in the day! I am totally FRIARED UP for this Friday night’s game…Go Friars! If you love the Friars as much as this momma, sign up your little ones for the Friar Kids Club.  For $25, you can enter a coloring contest, get cool souvenirs like a wristband and t-shirt, and get into over 100 games for free, including three awesome PC Men’s Basketball games, plus other cool events. On April 24th, the Friars Kids Club will be holding an End of the Year Field Day Celebration on April 24th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Slavin Lawn at Providence College. This event is free for Kids Club Members and Families!

Providence College holds a special place in my heart. I spent the better part of 8 years taking classes and earning my Master of Education there. My only regret is not taking “the walk” in 2004. I really should have done it, but I still earned the degree!

I love using my knowledge of children, teens, special needs and families to help RI families have a fantastic cultural childcare experience. I am here to support you and your au pair, make suggestions or help you develop best practices and guidelines for your au pair to use each day. Not only can your au pair keep your kids safe and happy, he or she can help your home function more smoothly by helping out with child-related tasks such as light meal prep and clean up, kids’ laundry, and even driving to/from school or sports. Visit Go Au Pair’s local page to apply today. Au Pairs from Go Au Pair stand out as a great value, with one price for all your kids, full & part time options. Your live-in au pair works up to 45 hours (not more than 10/day) for under $7.35 per hour.

My name is Joan Lowell, Providence College class of 2004 (DEC) and your Local Area Representative (LAR) for the Providence, RI and surrounding area. Contact me at or 401-309-1925 for more information.
