Not a huge basketball fan? Neither am I, but when the party comes to Providence, so does everyone else! There are at least two block parties planned, which is reason enough to venture downtown! The Federal Hill Commerce Association is hosting two culinary events to welcome NCAA fans to Providence and celebrate San Giuseppe (St. Joseph). There are events on both Thursday and Saturday, both featuring music and the unbelievable cuisine available only in the Federal Hill section of Providence known as Little Italy!

Thursdays event, from noon until 5pm, is at Garibaldi Park, adjacent to the famous Arch on Atwells Avenue, and will feature a variety of selections from Roma, local marketplace, banquet hall, caterer and ristorante, and Biergarten, Providence’s traditional German Biergarten with a Bavarian-inspired menu, where every day is Oktoberfest!

Saturday’s block party will start with the blessing of the zeppole at noon and runs until 8pm. Roma and Biergarten will be at the park again, with the DJ from the Omni. Open air dining, or al fresco dining seating will be available at Tony’s Colonial, DaVinci Ristorante, Roma, Harrys Bar & Burger, Café Pazzo and Biergarten. Acorn Street will be closed from Atwells to Spruce, and the public is welcome!

Don’t forget Providence’s first lighting of WaterFire is this weekend too! Friday night, come to the Slam Dunk WaterFire, a basin lighting, starting at 6pm with a shootout competition in Union Plaza. This is a don’t miss event for families and friends alike and it’s all free!

Get downtown this weekend and join the March Madness in Providence!
